Did you know that Petroleum distillates are associated with lung and skin cancer, and are an irritant to your skin, eyes, nose, and lungs? Or that Sodium Hypoclorite is corrosive and can irritate and burn skin? It can even can cause coma if ingested.
Ammonia can cause chronic irritation to your respiratory tract and the skin while potassium hydroxide burns your skin and can even cause severe tissue damage if swallowed. Perochlorethylene is known to cause kidney and liver damage and also has a slow decomposition rate. Sodium acid sulfate on the other hand is highly corrosive, and burns on skin contact.
Diethylene Glycol is also an interesting little substance: It causes central nervous system depression and degenerative lesions in liver and kidneys.
So, I hear you ask, what has that got to do with me? You are not a working in a lab or practicing as a Research Chemist so are probably never exposed to all those dangerous substances.
Are you sure?
Petroleum distillates are used in furniture polish. Sodium Hypoclorite and ammonia are used in common household disinfectants, potassium hydroxide is an ingredient in drain cleaners, Perochlorethylene is contained in spot removers, Sodium Acid Sulfate is part of common toilet bowl cleaners, and window cleaners contain Diethylene Glycol.
Still sure?
This has to do with you, has it not? To be honest: nobody in their mind would want this stuff in their houses let alone use it.
But despite that knowledge most of us like a clean house so use these substances every day. Is there no healthier, natural solution? Why should we surround ourselves with all those dangerous chemicals when we indeed have natural alternatives which work equally good or even better than those chemicals?
Let your house sparkle the natural way, which is better for our environment and for our health.
